Another Simple Lampshade!

I had a break from sewing yesterday, to make these little lampshades. I used the lovely scraps of vintage French fabrics that I bought at The American Museum.

All you need to do is cut or tear the fabric into small squares or oblongs. Then taking an old card lampshade as a base, start gluing the pieces down. I used PVA glue, as it dries clear.

Make sure you smooth the fabric down, with no wrinkles. Cover the entire shade, overlapping slightly where necessary.

I have several more shades to cover, so will probably take them along to sell on my stand at the next Antiques Fair.

I love this idea for lampshades. Yours are so pretty. I've got a fairly awkward shape oval shade that I don't like anymore. Covering it in small scraps would definitley be the easiest way. Can't wait to give it a try.

  5. Oh Niki, you make everything look so effortless! But we all know it also takes skill and an eye for the right styles and colours of fabric. I will see you at the next DMG Fair at Shepton and will enjoy looking at (and buying, no doubt!) all your lovely wares!

  10. Hi Niki,

I have made lace lampshades, cut and pierce lampshades but I never thought of doing the scrap lampshade. What a great idea, especially if one collects scrap pieces of vintage lace and fabric. Thanks for the idea.

  11. Wow that beautiful fabric is just glued on the lampshade, how fablulous Niki! Seeing that I can't sew this is something I could do as well, if I would have such gorgeous fabric that is lol. The lampshades are looking so delightful!

  12. Btw I've bought myself another lovely lamp with a rosy lampshade and a matching rose tablecloth yesterday at the country shop we've visited so I'm not too sad, that I don't own one of your gorgeous lampshades.
